Tik Tak House

Finished print

tiktak house

Background

Tik Tak is a Belgian children's television program that aired in 1981.
The show is known for its simple, non-verbal format and its characteristic house with a clock.
The house is a central element in the show, and is used to introduce the various segments.
The show is a hit with toddlers and preschoolers, and is still fondly remembered by many adults.
My girlfriend is a kindergarten teacher, so I've designed a 3D printable version of the house.

Printer

Anycubic Kobra 3

This print was made on Anycubic Kobra 3 Combo 3D printer.
I also own the Anycubic Ace Pro, so I was able to make it a multi color print.
The only parts with multiple colors are the clock and the doors. This means that the print can be made in a single color as well.
The multi color are all height based so can also be printed on a single color printer by editing the gcode the pause the printer at the right moment.
The printer has a design volume of 250x250x260mm, so the parts are designed to fit within these dimensions.
I used PLA filament for this print but any other material should work as well. The parts are not very challenging for printers.

Turntable

turntable SNUDDA

The most critical part of the print is the turntable.
The turntable is a Ikea SNUDDA, and is used to rotate the sheep or other objects.
The turntable is 39cm in diameter, which directly influenced the size of the rest of the print.

Design

tiktak house with doors opened

The house is designed to be printed in multiple parts, and is designed to be easily assembled. Disassembly should be possible if careful but pegs may break.
The roof and walls are three separate parts each. They are joined with holes and pegs with a tolerance of 0.2mm in the diameter.
The clock is a separate part, and can be rotated. The hand is joined with a 3d printed screw. The clock is joined to the wall with another 3d printed screw
The doors are separate parts, and can be opened and closed. They are joined with a 3d printed hinge.
The hinge on the wall are separate parts and can be rotated. They are joined with a 3d printed screw. This is due to the possible fragility of the hinge. This way the hinge and doors can easily be replaced without needing large reprints.
The house is designed to be printed with supports.

Walls

Walls model side_wall_1.stl side_wall_2.stl
One of the side walls did not properly stick to the bed. This is why the left wall looks to be missing a brick.
front_wall.stl
I had made a mistake in the design of the front wall. I had printed it a bit short, this is why my print has a front wall in two parts.

Doors

Doors model door_1.stl door_2.stl hinge.stl
You need to print the hinge four times. Two hinges per door. Insert the hinge in to the rectangular holes in the side walls.
